Family Spotlight: Yvonne

Yvonne with her brother, Eric

My name is Kwizera Yvonne and I would like to testify to God’s faithfulness. l am 21 years old and I am currently in 12th grade studying language.  I was born into a very poor family and my parents passed away when I was a little girl. To this day, I don’t even remember their faces.  When I lost my parents, my older brothers really struggled to take of me. Then one day, by God’s grace, the Torres family took my next oldest brother to live with their big family in Muramvya.

When I heard my brother got to go there I was angry and asked,  “Why did they take him and left me behind in such a poor situation?”  But one of my older sisters told me, “Don’t worry, they promised to come back and get you when they are prepared to take in the girls.”

Later that month, just as they promised, they took me too and took very good care of all of us. We never lacked for anything and I am so grateful for them and all they do for us. I pray God will reward them in heaven. They are so blessed.  Above all, I thank them for teaching us about God. Before I knew them, I didn’t care about God and only knew Bible stories. But now, I know God and I have a relationship with Him!

For many years, I didn’t know what I was passionate about or dreamed about doing in my future. Recently, I feel called and have decided to pursue Social Work so I can simply help others as I have been helped. That is my prayer and my vision—that God would provide everything needed for me to help others as the Torres’ have done over all these years.

This is my story. The story God is writing in my life!
